Dominican Republic vacations are some of the
best trips you will ever make in your lifetime. However, if you have never
travelled outside your home country, you may need some travel tips and
essential information about the Dominican Republic so that your vacation
is hassle free. You do need a passport to travel, even for a holiday. If
you travel from the United States, Australia, Peru or Canada, your
passport allows you to stay in the country for sixty days. Nationals from
other countries have to have a Visa in order to enter the country.
There are seven international airports and five regional airports in the
Dominican Republic. This means that you can fly to the airport nearest
your hotel or resort. You don't have to worry about driving here because a
driver from the resort will pick you up at the airport and bring you right
to the door. If you make your own vacation
arrangements, you can also get a taxi at the airport to take you to your
hotel.
There are many tours operating in the country that will take you to
attractions outside of the resort area. The main two tour companies are
Metro and Caribe Tours. If you want to see the countryside on your own,
then you can rent a car, but you also have to be aware of the rules of the
road. If you want to call home when you are on vacation. It is recommended
that you purchase pre-paid phone cards. The cost of long distance calls
from the Dominican Republic can be quite high.
All major credit cards are accepted. If you need money exchanged the best
thing to do is visit a money exchange booth in one of the malls or get the
money exchanged at the resort. It is not recommended that you exchange it
on the street, especially of you don't understand the currency. It is very
likely that you will get short changed.
When your vacation is over, you will have to pay a $20 fee before you can
board the plane. With an all-inclusive vacation package this fee is
included, but most visitors do not realize that this fee is over and above
the cost of their return ticket.
