Dominican Republic weather

The Dominican Republic weather is perfect for year round vacations. Because it has a tropical climate, the temperatures near the coast stay about the same all the time. The days are warm and sunny and if you do decide to travel cheaper during the off-season, this doesn't mean you will have rain everyday. If you decide on a destination in the southwestern part of the country, it is unlikely that you will see rain, even in the rainy season. The rainy season runs from May to November, but even then it rains early in the morning or late at night.

If you are looking for a place that is sunny all year, then the Dominican Republic is the destination of choice. The average temperature hovers around 78° near the beaches, which is where most of the tourists gather. In the higher altitudes of the mountains, the temperatures decrease with height and in the highest points the temperature often dips below freezing at night during the winter.

In the off-season, the temperatures tend to get a little chilly on the beaches when the sun goes down, but nothing that a light jacket or sweater can't handle. In fact, many visitors find it refreshing after the heat of the day.

The only problem you might encounter with the weather is the threat of hurricanes. The Dominican Republic lies in the direct path of most of the hurricanes that sweep across the Atlantic from June until October. Some of these have caused quite a bit of destruction to the country's tourist industry because tourists tend to stay away during this time of the year.
