Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic
When you visit Punta
Cana, Dominican Republic, you will visit some of the most spectacular and
scenic beaches in the world. This is just a resort area and not a town.
Along with about two dozen hotels, there are golf courses and mile after
mile of white sandy beaches. Lie in the sun and soak up the rays to get
the perfect tan you want to have after a holiday in Paradise. You can get
some shade from the sun with the more than 300,000 coconut trees and see
nature at its finest.
When you want to take time away from the beach, you can visit some of the
attractions that Punta Cana has to offer. These include the Manati Park
Bavaro, where you will see performing dolphins and see an authentic Taino
Indian village. You can walk through the jungle or take a motorbike ride
to the clear waters of the Pozo Azul millenarian cavern. There is not a
lot of sightseeing here or places to go shopping. You won't be swarmed by
the sellers at the market when you step outside the hotel like you are in
many other resort locations. For a peaceful holiday with no hustle and
bustle, Punta Cana is the place to choose.
This area lends itself to tourists who want to find everything they need
at the resort. The nearest town is 40 miles away and outside the resorts
on Punta Cana, you can walk for miles along the beach. The closest you
will come to finding a little town is El Cortecito. There are a few
attractions here, such as Manatee Park, which is an ecological site. You
can see the many forms of wildlife in their natural habitat. The Ponce de
Leon House is a good place to stop for a lunch of fresh fish.
You can still shop at small markets on the resort. Artisans rotate between
the different hotels each day so you will have a chance to buy authentic
souvenirs and clothing from the Dominican Republic. You have to be
prepared to barter. Never pay the first price because these sellers always
expect you to want a cheaper price, so there is plenty of room for
negotiating.
