Weather in the Dominican Republic

The weather in the Dominican Republic is one of the main reasons why tourists choose this location as their destination of choice when they want to go on vacation. The tropical climate means that there is little variation in the weather on the beaches. It is usually warm and sunny every day, with the average temperature hovering around 78°. On times, in some locations it does get quite hot, which is why you should always bring plenty of sunscreen with you, especially of you have a tendency to burn.

The rainy season in the Dominican Republic is from May to November and this also coincides with hurricane season from June to September. However, the rainy season should not stop anyone from planning a vacation here because some parts of the country hardly get any rain at all. When it does rain, it occurs in the early morning or in the night, so it doesn't interfere with your day plans.

The coast is the main tourist area and this is the part of the island that receives the best weather. As you go up into the mountains you should expect the temperatures to cool down, even to below freezing during the winter nights. From December to April the temperatures are more seasonable for people wanting to escape the cold Northern climates, yet not so hot that they have to stay indoors. In the evenings, you may have to wear a light sweater or jacket.

The temperatures on the beaches do not change much throughout the year. As with any country, the weather can be different from one side to the other. For example, one coast can have sunny skies while it is raining on the other. Any visitor to the Dominican Republic can expect to have at least 4 sunny days out of 7, which are very good odds when it comes to the weather.
